MY BIRTH STORY: Part 4/4 They placed her on my ch MY BIRTH STORY: Part 4/4

They placed her on my chest, cut the cord and took her for monitoring. It felt like hours until I could hold her again (it wasn’t that long but felt like it). All I wanted to do was hold her and make sure she was okay. But I felt like I had failed. Hallie had a hematoma on her head, bruises from forceps and jaundice. I looked at her and felt guilty. We stayed in hospital for 4 days for monitoring. I was in so much pain. I would cry because I was so in love, and cry because I was grieving and in pain. Brad was incredible through it all. By my side the whole time, and cooked and brought me fresh food every day. The best support. I look back now and realise how traumatic it truly was for me. I’ve decided to commit to my mental health and have booked / birth debrief and if all goes well continue counselling with an expert in this area. I’ve always felt “I’ll be fine” or “I’ll do the work myself”. But so many friends see professionals and we need to break the stigma so I’m doing it too. Motherhood has been freaking incredible so far and I can’t wait to share more of my journey.
MY BIRTH STORY: Part 3/4 I jumped back on the bed MY BIRTH STORY: Part 3/4

I jumped back on the bed for monitoring and tried to push on the bed. I knew in my heart this wasn’t going to be the position I birthed my baby in. I could see and feel her head at one point, but she just wasn’t in the right position to come out and if I remember correctly it was like her face was trying to come out? Posterior? It was all such a blur. I ended up having a chat to the OB and after a lot of back and forth we decided to try the kiwi cup (vacuum), however chose to do so in theatre with a spinal block in case I needed an emergency caesarean. The wait for theatre was about 30 mins and honestly the most painful wait of my life. Signing the consent form (for potential csection) was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make and honestly I was fucking terrified. This wasn’t what I had planned. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. I didn’t have my music, I couldn’t focus on my breathing, I was full of anxiety. My hypno birthing went out the window. Sure I seemed calm on the outside and I knew I was making the right decision, but my heart longed for my calm and unassisted birth. After a failed attempt from the kiwi cup, we had a forceps assisted birth and a little help for a stuck shoulder and Hallie was born at 5:07pm. Picture me on the operating table making jokes with the staff trying to cover up my fear. Typical Gemini….
MY BIRTH STORY: Part 2/4 I felt pretty proud that MY BIRTH STORY: Part 2/4

I felt pretty proud that I had handled it so well up until then. I did ask for an epidural but I didn’t really want one. Brad knew that so they suggested I tried to just give it a go without. After monitoring I jumped back in the shower with a birth ball and the gas (not that I feel that did anything). And that’s where things kinda slowed down. From here on I wasn’t really aware of time. The midwives said I could push when I felt the urge. I was definitely involuntarily pushing. A few hours had passed and they wanted to monitor me again however I felt frozen. Like I couldn’t move to do so. I declined. Again I don’t know how much time had passed but it was significant. Things took a turn from here. During a HR monitoring babies HR had started to decline. This got me worried. I reluctantly agreed to another cervical check. I had a cervical lip they tried to move, and boy was that an awful experience. Anyway, baby had also moved into a not so ideal position so that was also why things weren’t moving along.
MY BIRTH STORY: Part 1/4. My beautiful baby girl, MY BIRTH STORY: Part 1/4.

My beautiful baby girl, Hallie, was born on Tuesday 16th November 2021. The day before we went for a biiiiig long walk in the morning and I knew she would be on her way that day or the next. I had period like cramping all day and just continued about my day as usual. I should have napped. 😂 As of about 5/6pm my contractions started. They were bearable and I was able to make dinner and chill out. Around 9pm they intensified and we tried to go to bed. I left the fairy lights on and just breathed through them. Eventually I ended up in the shower and that was my favourite place to be! I had hired a tens machine which I had on for around an hour but it meant I couldn’t be in the shower so I ripped them off and jumped back in the hot water. I called the hospital around 1/2am when my contractions were 5 minutes apart. I took some Panadol and tried to rest some more in bed. I called the hospital again about 6am and my contractions were then 3 minutes apart. We got our stuff together and went in to hospital. We arrived around 7:30/8am and I went in to be monitored. I agreed to a dilation check as I was curious and I was 6-7cm dilated!
