Hi Beautiful! Happy New Year! I hope you sent 2018 off with a bang and are super excited for what 2019 has to hold for you. I know this can be the time of year when everyone is signing up for the gym, starting their new diet, and making resolutions and goals, which mostly revolve around health. But to be totally honest with you, making a new years resolution/goal is all well and good, but why don’t you make a complete lifestyle change?! I’m going to share with you my tips on how to start 2019 so that you can live a healthier lifestyle in general, instead of going to the gym and eating salad for a month and then giving up.
Cut The Cr*p
I’ll be totally honest with you, right here, right now. If you don’t WANT it bad enough, you won’t get it. I have heard so many excuses in my career and I’ve heard it all before…
“I can’t give up cheese.”
“I save my drinks for the weekends.”
“I’m too tired.”
“I don’t have time.” – This is the biggest one.
All of these to me, just say that “It’s not my priority.” And that’s fine, but if you want to live a healthier lifestyle then you kind of need to make it a priority. Think about your excuse, say it’s not a priority and see how you feel. I can guarantee you’ll want to make it a priority. You don’t need to give up the things that you like, it’s about creating the mindset that your health is a priority. It doesn’t need to take up a lot of time, you just need to believe that you deserve to live your healthiest life.
Do An Intolerance Test
Something that changed my life was giving up Wheat/Gluten! I’m not saying you have to as well, but I highly recommend doing an intolerance test to see what things your body isn’t handling very well. If you have any symptoms of bloating, gas, IBS, acne, body aches and pains it may be certain foods causing you the uncomfortable symptoms. This also took my health to the next level and I no longer suffer from crazy bloating all the time! I did my test through Allergy Test Australia, where you send in a hair sample for analysis. It shows you the percentages of the likeliness that you are intolerant to a certain product. Things that caused me pain were alcohol, beetroot, oats, pineapples and wheat, and so when these came up on the list I was totally shocked and decided to remove the items on the list to see a difference. Sneak In Your Veggies
I love to make meals that are jam packed full of veggies. We all know the whole 2&5 deal, so why don’t we all make a conscious effort to achieve this? Add your veggies to your smoothie, have them for breakfast, load up your lunch and hide them in the bolognese sauce for dinner. There are sooo many versatile ways you can hide your veggies, you just need to be creative! Just think, if you have 1 serve of greens in a smoothie for breakfast, 2 serves with lunch, and 2 serves with dinner then you have achieved your daily minimum really easily! But aim for more, and aim for all different colours, because different coloured veggies have different vitamins and minerals our bodies need. For example, a sample day for me would be:
8am – Breakfast Hash – White & Sweet Potato, Tomatoes, Capsicum & Spinach, tossed together in a pan with some coconut oil, herbs, salt and pepper.
12pm – Budda Bowl – Roast Carrot, Zucchini, & Pumpkin with Quinoa, Avocado, Pumpkin seeds and a homemade salad dressing.
3pm – Choccy Smoothie – Raw Cacao, Plant Mylk, Frozen Banana, Spinach & Chia Seeds.
6pm – Stir Fry & Rice – Cauliflower, Cabbage, Carrot, Capsicum, Snow Peas, White/Brown Rice, Tamari Sauce to taste & Sesame Seeds on top.
Lots of veggies, lots are hidden, and you can totally go nuts with fresh or dried herbs to make your meals super tasty.
Choose Exercise That You Like
Girl, don’t go lifting weights in the gym every day if it makes you yawn. Don’t go running 5kms a day if you think its boring and a waste of time. Find something you love, that you’re excited to do and passionate about! If you have to try dancing, muay thai, the gym, yoga, running, pole dancing, hockey, netball and a million other things before you find the one you love then so be it. It’s important to have a balance with your fitness that incorporates both strength and cardio training, but do it in a way that works for you.
Make A Schedule & Have Fun
Schedule in your meal prep, workouts, meditation and ‘me’ time. If you schedule it, you’ve made a date with yourself and you’re less likely to give up. If you need some diary inspo, I got mine here and it’s gorgeous! Exercise with a girlfriend, join F45 for a group workout or do a class that you know you need to book for. Or you could have a cooking day with some friends each week and you all cook a big batch of one meal and then swap it so you get a few different meals. If you’re not having fun while trying new healthy recipes, finding new ways to move your body and learning to love yourself, then change it up and try another way.
Get A Coach
Honestly, getting a coach is super important if you have no idea what you’re doing. Or even if you do. I teach my clients the skills and knowledge to eventually be able to go out there on their own, living their healthy lives and I know they’re in great hands with themselves. Sometimes it’s the accountability, or the appreciation that you’ve paid someone so you’ll take it more seriously.
