Happiness Can Be Found…

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Far out Dumbledore, ya got me good there. This is my all time favourite quote. And not only because it’s the only one I remember, but it speaks to me, you know?

This quote is so true, that even when times are tough, when you think you can’t get up, you’re not going to make it to something, or you’re just struggling in general, it’s important to make the most of what you have and always be grateful.

This is something I don’t really talk about a lot, but I live with a voice inside my head which stops me from doing a lot of things I wish I could do. It keeps me dwelling on the past, and worrying about the future, and often forgetting to just “be” and “live in the moment.” I guess you could call it anxiety, but I’m not giving it that title, because then it has power. It could just be my ‘Inner Mean Girl’ too. Let’s call her that.

This good ol’ Harry Potter quote reminds me every damn day to turn on the fricken light. Because life is what WE make of it! We need to be out there doing what we love and making the most of each and every day. Every day I turn on my own light.

I flood my body with nourishing, healthy foods.

I choose friendships and relationships that light me up. Keep that light on.

I am constantly learning, through reading, documentaries, podcasts.

I take time for myself and practice self-care routines.

I take my time. I try to move slowly and with purpose and intent.

But it hasn’t always been this way. And I sometimes find myself stuck in a rut. A crazy rut. And when I get stressed, sometimes I forget to turn my light on.

But I’m getting better and better. It takes practice and these days are mostly amazing!

Though it’s okay if you forget to turn on the light. Once you realise the light is off, just take a step back, breathe and focus until you’re ready to turn on the light.

If you can relate beauty, I’m sending you love. I’m also sending you STRENGTH to turn your light on. Start adding in things to your daily life that are going to allow you to keep your light on.

I hope this little snippet shows you that I too am not perfect. Nobody is. But all we can do is take every day as it comes, and remember to turn our lights on. Because life is better this way.

Lots of Love,

Alannah Jayde xx
